NEW YORK — Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner left Saturday’s matchup with the New York Knicks after sustaining a lower left leg injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game, the team said.

The incident happened with 4:43 left in the first quarter. Wagner rose for an alley-oop on a fast break and was fouled by Knicks big man Ariel Hukporti. On the landing, his left knee appeared to buckle, and he stayed down for several moments before being helped to the locker room.

The Magic announced that Wagner will undergo an MRI after the team returns to Orlando on Sunday evening.

The injury arrives just as Orlando regained forward Paolo Banchero, last season’s leading scorer, who recently missed 10 games with a left groin strain.

Wagner had filled the scoring void during Banchero’s absence, averaging 25.1 points, six rebounds and four assists over the past seven contests. He entered Saturday leading the Magic at 23.4 points per game.
