Golden State’s already lengthy injury report grew again Saturday, with veteran center Al Horford ruled out for the road matchup in Cleveland while he continues to manage sciatica and back-to-back restrictions.
Horford, who joined the Warriors as a free agent this summer, has appeared in just 13 of the club’s first 23 contests. He is averaging 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 21.5 minutes but told The Athletic’s Nick Friedell he is “not where I want to be” after returning Thursday at Philadelphia.
“I haven’t been very good,” Horford said. “There’s more that I need to do, and I need to be better … but I was encouraged with some of the things tonight.” The 38-year-old logged 18 minutes against the Sixers, his first game action in roughly two weeks.
Green in walking boot but able to shoot
Forward Draymond Green, who exited Thursday’s game with a right-foot injury and left the arena in a walking boot, was able to take part in light shooting on his own following Saturday’s morning shootaround, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater. Team officials remain optimistic about his short-term outlook.
Curry progressing from thigh contusion
Head coach Steve Kerr said star guard Stephen Curry is progressing well from a thigh contusion and could realistically return Friday against Minnesota. Curry joins Horford, Green, Jimmy Butler, Seth Curry and De’Anthony Melton on the current injury list.
Richard credits four college seasons for quick adjustment
Rookie wing Will Richard, selected 56th overall, has carved out rotation minutes despite being considered an older prospect at age 22. “Those four years at Florida helped me adjust much quicker than if I were an 18-year-old freshman,” he told ClutchPoints, noting his atypical path compared with younger draftees.
No pursuit of Mavericks’ Anthony Davis
ClutchPoints reporter Brett Siegel refuted speculation that Golden State is chasing a trade for Mavericks big man Anthony Davis, tweeting that the Warriors have not contacted Dallas and do not intend to open discussions this season.
