PHOENIX — Suns guard Devin Booker will be sidelined for a minimum of seven days after being diagnosed with a right groin strain, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers. He will be re-evaluated in one week, ruling him out for Friday’s game versus the Houston Rockets and Monday’s matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Phoenix’s earliest target for his return is next Wednesday’s NBA In-Season Tournament quarterfinal in Oklahoma City.

Charania characterized the timetable as an encouraging sign, noting the injury is not believed to be serious.

Booker leads the team with 25.0 points per game, adding 6.7 assists and 4.3 rebounds across 34.7 minutes in his first 22 appearances. Despite offseason moves that sent Kevin Durant to another club and led to a Bradley Beal buyout, the Suns have opened the season 13-9 with Booker at the forefront.

His absence joins that of Jalen Green, who has missed most of the year with hamstring issues, further testing Phoenix’s backcourt depth. Rookie Ryan Dunn returned Monday after a five-game layoff due to a sprained wrist, and Grayson Allen is expected to be available after sitting out Monday with an illness following a seven-game absence for a quad injury.

Assuming full health, Dunn and Allen are slated for larger roles alongside guards Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin and Jamaree Bouyea, who logged a season-high 23 minutes on Monday.
