The Houston Rockets intend to sign forward Tyler Smith to a two-way deal and will waive guard Kevon Harris to create the roster spot, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line and Bleacher Report.

Smith, 21, was selected 33rd overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. During his rookie season with Milwaukee, the 6-foot-9 forward appeared in 23 games, posting 122 total minutes. He averaged 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds with the G League’s Wisconsin Herd before the Bucks released him in October amid roster cuts.

After entering the G League draft, Smith was taken second overall by Osceola and immediately dealt to the Capital City Go-Go. In eight games with Washington’s affiliate this fall, he is averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 37.8 percent from the field.

Houston plans to assign Smith primarily to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, though NBA rules allow him to be active for up to 38 games with the Rockets.

Harris, 28, has not appeared for Houston this season. The guard owns 34 NBA games, all on previous two-way contracts with the Orlando Magic.
