MarJon Beauchamp delivered a record 50 points across two games as Team USA opened 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying with back-to-back victories over Nicaragua, reviving interest from NBA clubs in the 25-year-old forward.
The United States won by 35 points on Friday and 24 points on Monday, moving to 2-0 ahead of the next qualifying window in late February. The roster featured several NBA veterans, including Brandon Knight, Torrey Craig and Kessler Edwards, but Beauchamp was the clear standout, The Athletic reported.
Efficient Scoring Outburst
Beauchamp went 18-for-26 from the field (69.2%) and 9-for-14 from three-point range (64.3%), setting a Team USA mark for total points in a two-game qualifying window. “Yeah, he’s gonna be in the NBA at some point, whether it’s tomorrow or later this year,” U.S. head coach Stephen Silas said.
NBA Journey to Date
Selected 24th overall by Milwaukee in the 2022 draft, Beauchamp has logged 135 NBA appearances with the Bucks, Clippers and Knicks. Milwaukee traded him to Los Angeles at last season’s deadline, but the Clippers waived him weeks later. He finished the campaign on a two-way deal with New York.
This fall the 6’7” wing spent preseason stints with Portland and Philadelphia and opened the year with the Delaware Blue Coats, the 76ers’ G League affiliate. Still eligible for a two-way contract, he is weighing offers from European clubs while awaiting another NBA opportunity.
Pointing to Past Production
Beauchamp cited his early-season role under former Bucks coach Adrian Griffin in 2023-24 as proof he can contribute. “I was playing for Coach Griffin as the seventh man, shooting 40 percent (on three-pointers) off the bench,” he said, noting he averaged 15.7 minutes through 34 games before Doc Rivers replaced Griffin and adjusted the rotation.
For now, his efficient outburst in FIBA play has strengthened his case for a return to the league he left earlier this year.
