Oklahoma City guard Jalen Williams made his season debut Friday night, helping the Thunder defeat Phoenix and move on in NBA Cup play.
Starting after a five-month recovery from two wrist surgeries, Williams logged 29 minutes, finishing with 11 points and eight assists. The second-team All-Defensive selection from last season guarded 10 different Suns, limiting them to a combined 3-for-14 shooting.
“Just pass the ball to the guys who’ve been playing was the goal for tonight,” Williams said postgame. “I’m still trying to get my shooting touch back, but defensively my feet feel fine and my wind is actually really good.”
Timberwolves aim to feature Randle
Minnesota head coach Chris Finch told reporters Friday that the club intends to place forward Julius Randle “in the heart” of its offensive sets, saying that was a primary focus during practice.
Trail Blazers injury report
Interim coach Tiago Splitter said guard Jrue Holiday (calf) took part in non-contact work Saturday but remains without full medical clearance after missing seven games. Forward Matisse Thybulle, sidelined since Oct. 26 following thumb surgery, is limited to shooting and ball-handling drills and also lacks contact approval.
Jazz rookie day-to-day
Utah first-year forward Ace Bailey is considered day-to-day with a right knee bruise suffered Friday, according to the team.
