NBA releases 2025-26 list of veterans who can sign in-season extensions

The NBA’s relaxed extension rules continue to fuel a surge in veteran deals, and 2025-26 is expected to follow the trend. Any player in the final season of a contract can put pen to paper through June 30, 2026, provided the extension starts at no more than 140 percent of the current salary or 140 percent of the league’s estimated average salary. For the current cap year, that upper limit translates to a first-year salary of $19,418,000, with a four-year package topping out near $87 million.
