Washington Wizards wing Corey Kispert sustained a fracture to the tip of his right thumb and will be sidelined indefinitely, the club announced Thursday. The team plans to treat the injury conservatively and will provide a further timetable as his recovery progresses.

According to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, the 26-year-old will not need surgery, and similar thumb fractures generally require about three weeks of healing.

Kispert was hurt in the third quarter of Tuesday’s 132–113 win over the Atlanta Hawks when defender Nickeil Alexander-Walker swiped at the ball as Kispert passed to Khris Middleton. Kispert immediately shook his right hand in pain and exited the contest shortly afterward.

Now in his fourth NBA season, the former first-round pick has come off the bench in 15 of Washington’s 17 games, averaging a career-low 19.9 minutes along with 8.9 points on 50.5% shooting and 40.3% from three-point range.

With Kispert and rookie guard Tre Johnson (left hip flexor strain) both unavailable, third-year swingman Cam Whitmore and first-year guard Will Riley are expected to see increased action on the wing.
