Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant will be unavailable for the club’s next two contests while attending to a family matter, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Rockets are scheduled to face the Suns in Phoenix on Monday, followed by a road matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

Durant, 37, has remained productive in his first season with Houston, averaging 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 steal across 36.1 minutes in 14 games. The 15-time All-Star is shooting 48.5% from the field, 36.4% from three-point range and 80.0% at the free-throw line.

Asked recently about his role on a young Rockets roster, Durant told Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko that he has grown more comfortable speaking up. “I feel like I study the game a lot. I’ve been through every situation,” Durant said. “That’s given me more confidence to speak up when I see things and to help my teammates as much as possible.”

Durant has been particularly supportive of second-year guard Reed Sheppard, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft. “Knowing the kind of person he is and how much confidence he’s given me is really cool,” Sheppard said.

With Durant sidelined—and forwards Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle surgery) and Tari Eason (oblique strain) still recovering—veterans JaeSean Tate and Jeff Green could see expanded roles. Tate would need to be recalled from his G League assignment to join the rotation.
