Los Angeles, CA — LeBron James took to social media on Nov. 22, 2025 to salute longtime friend and rival Chris Paul, who revealed this season will be his last in the NBA.
The tribute, captured in a post by The Athletic reporter Dan Woike, came as Paul navigates his 21st campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers. The 12-time All-Star is expected to enter the Hall of Fame thanks to a résumé that includes five assist titles, 11 All-NBA selections, nine All-Defensive honors and the 2005-06 Rookie of the Year award. Although Paul never secured a championship, he helped steer playoff contenders with both the Clippers and Houston Rockets.
James, 40, is in his 23rd season with the Lakers and still producing at an All-NBA level. While the four-time champion has not indicated when he will retire, he has repeated that the chase for a fifth ring keeps him motivated.
The two veterans have squared off countless times since entering the league in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and they will meet at least four more times this year when the Lakers face the Clippers.
James’ longevity also places him alongside teammates who grew up idolizing him. Luka Doncic, now sharing the floor with the four-time MVP, recently called playing with James “special” and expressed hope that their partnership can drive Los Angeles to another title.
