Chicago Bulls

The Bulls remain stuck between rebuilding and contending, and league insiders say the franchise could pursue a blockbuster to change that dynamic. According to ESPN, Chicago will carry more than $80 million in expiring contracts this summer, while starters Coby White and Nikola Vucevic head toward free agency. That financial flexibility has sparked speculation that the front office might explore a trade for Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis, a Chicago native.

“I could see it,” a Western Conference scout told ESPN after recently evaluating the Bulls. The executive noted that guard Josh Giddey has meshed with Vucevic but would benefit from an elite roll man.

Second-year forward Matas Buzelis has shown promise, yet the organization still lacks a bona fide franchise player, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported.

Charlotte Hornets

No. 2 overall pick Cooper Flagg opened the season as the runaway Rookie of the Year favorite, but former Duke teammate Kon Knueppel has mounted a strong challenge. Knueppel leads all rookies at 18.3 points per game and is converting 40 percent of his three-point attempts. Scouts cited by ESPN praised the guard’s shooting touch and overall court sense.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Early returns on Cleveland’s offseason overhaul have been mixed. The Cavaliers swapped Sixth Man of the Year finalist Ty Jerome for Lonzo Ball, aiming for a higher postseason ceiling, but the move has cost them regular-season stability. With Jerome gone and Darius Garland limited to just 73 minutes by a toe injury, last season’s top-ranked offense has slipped out of the NBA’s top 10.

“They’re not great right now, but they’re down at least two starters,” a Western Conference scout told ESPN, citing absences for Garland, Max Strus and Sam Merrill. The scout added that Ball “hasn’t been great.” The team’s long-term outlook still hinges on further development from Evan Mobley, the scout said.
