The Indiana Pacers are set to bring in veteran wing Garrison Mathews on a 10-day contract through a hardship exception, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Mathews, 27, is in his sixth NBA season and owns a career 38% mark from three-point range over 314 games with Washington, Houston and Atlanta. He joined the New York Knicks for training camp in the fall but was released after Landry Shamet claimed the final roster spot. The short-term pact with Indiana will pay him $165,197.

To make room, Indiana will convert forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl to a standard two-year, minimum-salary contract as his second 10-day deal expires, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. The Pacers will waive guard Monte Morris to open the roster slot.

The procedural move keeps the team eligible for a hardship exception, with Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles), Obi Toppin (foot), Aaron Nesmith (knee) and Kam Jones (back) all sidelined.

Robinson-Earl, 23, has appeared in 10 games for Indiana, starting three, and is averaging 5.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per outing. The Pacers value his energy and plan to continue evaluating him over the remainder of the season.

Indiana, hampered by injuries since the opening weeks, carries a 2-13 record into Friday’s road matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
