NEW YORK — Guard Jalen Brunson is set to play Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks after missing a week with a Grade 1 sprain of his right ankle, the New York Knicks said.

Brunson was hurt on Nov. 12 during a late drive to the basket in the Knicks’ 124-107 home loss to the Orlando Magic. Daily evaluations followed, and the 27-year-old sat out two games against the Miami Heat before receiving medical clearance.

The sprain affected the same ankle that sidelined Brunson for 15 games last season. That previous injury, initially projected to require two weeks of recovery, kept him out longer, though he returned in time for the playoffs and helped New York reach the Eastern Conference finals.

Entering Wednesday’s contest, Brunson is averaging 28.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists for the 8-5 Knicks.
