Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green offered an inside look at the alley-oop attempt Victor Wembanyama threw down over him during Friday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, a play that was erased by a foul call moments earlier.

Speaking Monday on “The Draymond Green Show”, the four-time NBA champion said the sequence began after he blocked the 7-foot-4 rookie on the previous possession. Green said he stared at Wembanyama and shouted, “Yeah, motherf—er,” prompting the Spurs center to fire back, “You too small.” Green replied that Wembanyama was “too little,” escalating the trash talk as the two walked to the opposite block.

With 7:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, guard Stephon Castle triggered an inbounds pass under the basket. Wembanyama pivoted left, leapt, caught the lob with his left hand and hammered the ball over Green while drawing contact. The basket, however, was waved off because officials ruled the foul occurred before the pass.

“I thought I could get the lob when I saw it go up, but I had no chance,” Green said, adding that teammate Jimmy Butler, on the weak side, “had no chance” either. “The only person that had a chance to get the lob was the guy who caught the lob—Wemby.”

The Warriors escaped with a 109-108 victory after rallying in the fourth quarter behind 49 points from Stephen Curry. According to ESPN Research, Curry joined Michael Jordan as the only players 35 or older with back-to-back 45-point games. Wembanyama finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, while Green recorded six points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
