Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo left Monday’s matchup in Cleveland with a left groin strain and was ruled out for the second half, the team announced.
The injury occurred late in the second quarter when the forward drove to the basket, then limped back on defense. After committing a foul, he removed himself from the game and headed to the locker room.
Backup big man Jericho Sims started the third quarter in Antetokounmpo’s place.
Antetokounmpo, 30, had been listed as probable before tip-off because of left knee patellar tendinopathy, an issue head coach Doc Rivers said last week was not considered serious.
Before Monday’s exit, the two-time MVP was posting 32.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.3 blocks across 33.4 minutes per game in 12 appearances this season.
The Bucks have not yet provided an update on the severity of the groin strain or a timeline for his return.
