NEW YORK — Forward OG Anunoby was ruled out for the remainder of the New York Knicks’ game against the Miami Heat on Friday night after straining his left hamstring late in the first quarter.
Anunoby, 28, was injured with 6:52 left in the opening period when he missed a layup and immediately reached for his hamstring. He went to the locker room moments later and was officially declared out at the start of the second quarter.
The veteran entered the contest averaging 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds. Last season, he matched his career high by appearing in 74 games, marking only the second time he has played more than 70 games in a year.
New York was already short-handed Friday, as star guard Jalen Brunson sat out with a right ankle sprain sustained in the final minutes of Wednesday’s loss to the Orlando Magic. Brunson, who left Madison Square Garden in a walking boot, has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain and is listed as day-to-day.
