Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James appears on track for his first game of the season after completing back-to-back full-contact practices with the organization’s G League affiliate this week.
James, 40, took part in five-on-five sessions with the South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, his most demanding activity since beginning rehabilitation for sciatica, The Orange County Register reported. Head coach JJ Redick said the workout was “an incredible opportunity” for the affiliate and added that the veteran forward “looked good and was moving well.”
The four-time NBA champion returned to the court Thursday for a second practice and, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, showed no lingering effects from the previous day’s workload. Team sources told ESPN that if his progress continues, James is expected to practice with the Lakers’ main roster on Monday.
James has yet to play this season, but Los Angeles has remained competitive without him. His anticipated return would provide a significant boost as the club navigates a tightly packed Western Conference race.
