Dallas Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont publicly acknowledged regret over trading Luka Dončić during Monday night’s 116-114 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, offering a personal apology to an 18-year-old fan wearing a purple-and-gold Dončić jersey.
Nicholas Dickason, whose family holds season tickets four rows behind Dumont’s customary courtside seat at American Airlines Center, approached the executive in the third quarter. Dickason had previously directed profanity and an obscene gesture at Dumont following Dallas’s season-opening 125-92 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs in October—Dončić’s first opener as a Los Angeles Laker after six seasons with the Mavericks.
“Patrick said he feels terrible about the trade and wants to make it up to the fans,” Dickason told The Athletic in a phone interview, adding that Dumont also accepted his personal apology for the earlier outburst.
According to Dickason and a subsequent post by MFFL Nation, Dumont admitted the move “wasn’t in the best interest of the franchise” and vowed to regain supporters’ trust.
The exchange came hours before Dumont dismissed general manager Nico Harrison, who had become the focal point of “Fire Nico” chants as Dallas stumbled early in the 2025-26 season.
Nearly a year after sending Dončić to Los Angeles in what many analysts consider the most startling trade in NBA history, the Mavericks are attempting to reset their trajectory while Dončić flourishes with the Lakers.
