San Francisco — Stephen Curry will not play Sunday night against the Indiana Pacers, marking the Golden State Warriors guard’s third straight absence while he recovers from an illness.
The team announced the decision roughly two hours before tipoff at Chase Center. Head coach Steve Kerr said medical staff chose “the cautious approach” after listing Curry as questionable earlier in the day.
Curry fell ill following the Warriors’ late-October trip to Indianapolis and Milwaukee. He pushed through the symptoms in Tuesday’s home win over the Phoenix Suns, later admitting he “ran out of gas” in the second half. The 37-year-old stayed in the Bay Area for Wednesday’s defeat in Sacramento and Friday’s loss in Denver.
Kerr added that Curry is scheduled to work out on the practice court Sunday night and again Monday morning. If he responds well, the club hopes he can return Tuesday in Oklahoma City, the first stop on a five-city, six-game road swing.
Golden State opened the season 4-1 but has since dropped four of five, falling to 5-5. Including postseason games, the Warriors have dropped eight straight contests without their two-time MVP.
Indiana arrives in San Francisco at 1-8 after Saturday’s loss in Denver and will be without several rotation players, including Pascal Siakam. The Pacers’ lone victory this season came against Golden State.
