The Los Angeles Lakers have opened the 2025-26 campaign at 7-2, and head coach JJ Redick credits the club’s tight-knit culture for the early success.

Speaking after Wednesday night’s win over the San Antonio Spurs, Redick said the organization made team connectivity a daily priority from the first day of training camp.

“Whether it’s been some off-court activities, the Pecha Kucha, we’re constantly encouraging and empowering our guys to get connected,” he noted. “If you’re connected off the floor, you’re connected on the floor. The players have bought into being a together group, and it’s fun to coach.”

The Lakers have maintained the Western Conference’s second-best record behind the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder despite several injuries. Guard Luka Doncic and guard Austin Reaves have led the charge, while center Deandre Ayton, forward Jake LaRavia, forward Rui Hachimura and rookie guard Nick Smith Jr. have each delivered key performances.

On Oct. 31 in Memphis, the roster’s camaraderie was on display when Doncic and Reaves celebrated together during a timeout against the Grizzlies at FedExForum. Moments like that, Redick said, highlight the collective mindset he hoped to cultivate.

Los Angeles could receive another boost soon. Forward LeBron James, sidelined since the preseason, has been cleared for contact; full 5-on-5 work is the next step toward his season debut.
