The Indiana Pacers have added swingman Cody Martin on a 10-day contract granted through the NBA’s hardship exception, the club announced. The 30-year-old will earn roughly $165,000 during the short-term agreement.
Martin split the first half of last season between the Charlotte Hornets and Phoenix Suns, establishing himself in Charlotte as a versatile wing defender. His best statistical year came in 2021, when he averaged 7.7 points while shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc.
Indiana qualified for an additional hardship slot as injuries continued to mount. Tyrese Haliburton is out for the season with an Achilles injury, Obi Toppin is sidelined until February, and T.J. McConnell, Bennedict Mathurin, Kam Jones, and Andrew Nembhard have each missed multiple games.
Bulls
The Chicago Bulls have opened the season 6-1 but are still without guard Coby White. Head coach Billy Donovan told reporters White remains “a couple weeks away” while working back from a calf issue. “He’s sprinting, running, cutting, jumping, trying to do everything completely full speed,” Donovan said, noting several players around the league are managing similar injuries.
Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks will again be without Anthony Davis and rookie center Dereck Lively II for tonight’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, according to team reporter Eddie Sefko.
