SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors wing Jimmy Butler exited Tuesday night’s matchup with the Phoenix Suns after experiencing lower back soreness, cutting short his appearance after just 14 first-half minutes.
The discomfort first surfaced following the Warriors’ loss in Indianapolis on Saturday. Butler was listed as questionable for the game at Chase Center but went through warm-ups about 90 minutes before tipoff and was cleared to play. He struggled offensively, hitting only one of five shots, before checking out at the 7:04 mark of the second quarter. He headed to the locker room and did not return to the bench after halftime. The team officially ruled him out during the third quarter.
Since arriving in a February trade, Butler had appeared in 30 of Golden State’s final 31 regular-season games and missed only one playoff contest, sidelined briefly by a tailbone injury suffered in Game 2 of the first round at Houston. He had started all eight games this season before Tuesday’s early departure.
The Warriors travel to Sacramento for the second half of a back-to-back on Wednesday night. Eight of their next nine contests are on the road.
