The New Orleans Pelicans announced Tuesday that forward Zion Williamson has a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring and will be sidelined for a minimum of seven to 10 days.
The club said Williamson will be reevaluated after that window.
New Orleans, winless at 0-6, hosts the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night at Smoothie King Center. In Sunday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the 25-year-old led the Pelicans with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Williamson tops the roster this season at 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. The former No. 1 overall pick has missed stretches in each of the past four seasons because of hamstring problems.
Since entering the league in 2019, Williamson has reached 61 games in a season only twice. He appeared in 30 contests last year before the team shut him down in March with a bone bruise in his back.
Prior to Tuesday’s injury update, Williamson had missed just one game this season — an Oct. 27 matchup with Boston — due to a left foot bone contusion.
