Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry says he finally witnessed the full extent of LeBron James’ famed training routine while the two shared a locker room during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Speaking on the “Mind the Game” podcast, Curry recalled arriving early for Team USA practices only to find the 22-year veteran already deep into his workout. “I couldn’t beat him to the gym in the morning,” Curry said, describing an “unspoken” culture set by James that underscored why the Los Angeles Lakers star remains an All-NBA performer entering Year 22 and preparing for an unprecedented 23rd season.

Curry and James have battled in four straight NBA Finals (2015-18) and numerous postseason matchups, but last summer marked their first stint as teammates. The U.S. went on to capture gold in Paris, further cementing James’ longevity and preparation as central talking points among his peers.

Lakers Await James’ Return

The Lakers are optimistic James will rejoin the lineup soon. Until then, head coach JJ Redick is leaning on a shorthanded backcourt that recently delivered a surprise 123-115 road win over the Portland Trail Blazers. With James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves sidelined on the second night of a back-to-back, rookie Nick Smith Jr. scored 25 points off the bench, Rui Hachimura added 28, and Deandre Ayton finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds.

The victory pushed Los Angeles to 6-2 despite James’ season-long absence and Doncic missing half of the first eight games. Redick cited the team’s resilience as a key factor in its early success.
