Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves carved out a unique place in NBA history on Sunday night, tossing a one-handed lob that Bronny James finished with a two-handed dunk during the first quarter of a 130-120 win over the Miami Heat at Crypto.com Arena.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Reaves, 27, is the only player in the past 25 years to record alley-oop assists to both a father and son. He previously connected with LeBron James on a similar play, a highlight the Lakers reposted Monday on X.
“I’ve got to be the first person in NBA history to throw a father a lob and a son a lob while they’re still on the same team,” Reaves said after the game. He added that he told LeBron the sequence was “pretty special” before checking out of the game.
Reaves finished with 26 points and 11 assists. The dunk accounted for Bronny’s only points; the rookie also posted three steals and two assists in 18 minutes. Luka Dončić led Los Angeles with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
LeBron and Bronny made league history last season by becoming the first father-son duo to appear in the same NBA game.
