The Philadelphia 76ers have upgraded guard Jared McCain to probable for Tuesday night’s matchup with the Chicago Bulls, setting up the second-year player to appear in his first game since December 2024.

McCain, 21, tore a ligament in his right shooting thumb during a workout in late September, one day before the club’s media day. The injury delayed the start of his sophomore campaign after a torn meniscus in his left knee ended his rookie season at 23 games. Before last year’s setback, the No. 16 pick in the 2024 NBA draft averaged 15.3 points and shot 38.3% from three, production that had him in early contention for Rookie of the Year honors.

If he plays Tuesday at United Center, McCain is expected to come off the bench behind All-Star Tyrese Maxey and rookie guard VJ Edgecombe, the No. 3 overall selection in June.

Philadelphia remains without forward Paul George, who is recovering from offseason knee surgery. The team has not announced a target date for George’s return, though he has gradually increased his workload in practice over the past two weeks.

The 76ers and Bulls enter the contest with identical 5-1 records, tied atop the Eastern Conference and, along with the San Antonio Spurs, holding the NBA’s second-best mark behind the unbeaten 7-0 Oklahoma City Thunder.
