Kings Weigh Signing Free-Agent Forward Precious Achiuwa

The Sacramento Kings are exploring a deal with free agent big man Precious Achiuwa as they look to shore up a thin frontcourt, according to NBA reporters Jake Fischer and Brett Siegel.

Fischer tweeted at 11:31 a.m. that Sacramento is “looking at bringing in” the 26-year-old, while Siegel added at 12:27 p.m. that two-way forward Isaac Jones will likely be waived if an agreement is reached.

The Kings have opened the season 2-4 and are undersized at power forward, often starting DeMar DeRozan at the four. With Keegan Murray sidelined by a thumb injury, Domantas Sabonis is the only frontcourt player averaging more than 3.2 points per game.

Sacramento’s roster is full, so any signing would require a corresponding cut. Achiuwa became available after the Miami Heat released him late in training camp to avoid crossing the luxury-tax threshold.

Achiuwa’s Career to Date

Selected 20th overall by Miami in the 2020 draft, Achiuwa has appeared in 320 regular-season games with the Heat, Raptors and Knicks, averaging 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 20.0 minutes. He played 57 games (10 starts) for New York last season.

The 6-foot-8 forward rejoined Miami on a non-guaranteed deal this summer but was waived before opening night. “It is tough,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of the move, citing the club’s cap situation. Achiuwa averaged 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 11.7 minutes across four preseason outings.

No timeline has been reported for when Sacramento might finalize a decision.
