Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James has added another project to his publishing résumé, announcing Thursday that his new children’s picture book, “Happy Spooky Halloween,” will hit shelves on July 21.
The 32-page hardcover, illustrated by Ariel Landy and released through HarperCollins, centers on Halloween festivities and the value of teamwork. According to the publisher, the story follows a young girl named Zara and her friends as they navigate a party hosted by “the big kids” at the fictional Hickory Elementary.
Halloween has long been James’s favorite holiday, and he regularly showcases elaborate costumes on social media. In a brief video posted to his accounts, the four-time NBA champion called publishing a Halloween book a personal bucket-list moment, telling fans, “You know how much I love Halloween—this one’s going to be special. Happy Spooky Halloween to everyone.”
“Happy Spooky Halloween” becomes the fourth children’s title from James, following “I Promise” (2020), “We Are Family” (2023) and “I Am More Than” (2024). His debut, “I Promise,” reached No. 1 on The New York Times bestseller list.
