Dallas, TX — Oct. 29, 2025 — The Dallas Mavericks have accused the Dallas Stars of effectively “holding hostage” the American Airlines Center, the arena both teams call home, according to legal filings made public Thursday.
The NBA club alleges the NHL franchise is leveraging its stake in the building to gain an unfair advantage in ongoing negotiations over the facility’s day-to-day operations, revenue distribution and future upgrades. Details of the dispute were outlined in documents submitted to a Texas state court, where the Mavericks claim the Stars’ actions are jeopardizing key business decisions tied to the 23-year-old venue.
The court papers state that the Stars’ position has “paralyzed” routine management of the arena and created scheduling and financial complications for both organizations as well as the City of Dallas, which owns the building. The Mavericks are asking a judge to enforce existing contractual terms and prevent what they describe as obstruction by their NHL counterpart.
No immediate hearing date has been set. Representatives for both the Mavericks and the Stars declined to comment on the litigation.
