August 10, 2025 — Newly signed Mavericks guard D’Angelo Russell says the foundation he received in Brooklyn has prolonged his career. Speaking with Dwayne Wade on a recent podcast, Russell contrasted the Nets’ structure with what he experienced earlier in his career.

“The organization of Brooklyn is different,” he said. “The performance, team, coach—everything about Brooklyn is different than what you would expect. … Where I came from, the Lakers, the structure is not the same.”

Russell, 29, appeared in 29 games for the Nets last season and previously spent two campaigns with the club from 2017-19 after starting his career in Los Angeles. He credited Brooklyn staff for teaching him professional habits in sleep, nutrition and recovery.

Trainer Sees Draymond-Type Ceiling for Murray-Boyles

Khadijah Sessions, personal trainer for Raptors rookie forward Collin Murray-Boyles, believes the No. 9 overall pick can evolve into a defender in the mold of Draymond Green—while offering greater scoring punch. “He can defend all positions, he can pass, he can set his teammates up,” Sessions told TSN Sports. “He’s going to shoot better than [Green] … score better than him. But it’s going to be over time.” Murray-Boyles is expected to open the season behind Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram in Toronto’s front-court rotation.

Nets Still Holding Significant Draft Capital

After making several first-round selections in June, Brooklyn continues to control a trove of picks and swaps, including its own 2026 first-rounder reacquired from Houston. The extra assets add pressure on general manager Sean Marks to convert this summer’s haul into long-term contributors and to maximize future selections, the New York Post reports.

Grimes Faces Contract Decision in Philadelphia

Restricted free agent Quentin Grimes has an $8.7 million qualifying offer from the 76ers on the table. Accepting it would position the 24-year-old guard for unrestricted free agency in 2026, while continued talks could produce a multiyear agreement sooner. PHLY Sports analyzed the situation in its latest podcast.
