Los Angeles, CA — Los Angeles Lakers icon and Dodgers minority owner Magic Johnson joined thousands of fans online early Tuesday to celebrate the Dodgers’ dramatic 6–5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3 of the 2025 World Series.

The contest at Dodger Stadium began on Oct. 27 and stretched into the early hours of Oct. 28, ending after 18 innings and six hours, 39 minutes — the second-longest game in World Series history. First baseman Freddie Freeman ended the marathon with a walk-off home run, giving Los Angeles a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Johnson, who earned five NBA championships with the Lakers, posted a series of messages on social media moments after Freeman’s blast. “Freddie Freeman’s walk-off HR seals the victory in the 18th inning as my @Dodgers win 6-5,” he wrote, calling the veteran slugger “simply amazing.” Johnson also praised two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, who hit two home runs earlier in the game, and applauded a bullpen that used little-known reliever Will Klein among several arms to cover extra innings.

The game featured a brief appearance by longtime ace Clayton Kershaw and followed the Lakers’ home matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, allowing basketball fans to shift their attention to baseball’s late-night thriller.

Los Angeles will return to the field tonight for Game 4, hoping to avoid another extra-inning marathon as the club seeks its second championship in three seasons.

Separately, the cross-town connection between the Dodgers and Lakers is set to grow: Dodgers principal owner Mark Walter is poised to take control of the Lakers, and fellow Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly is expected to join him in the NBA franchise’s ownership group.
